The Name "Metal Plate" Should Be Changed

I find it odd that iron plates are called metal plates, the steel and stainless are what their name implies, steel plate for example. The word metal is ambiguous and could be confusing to a person who is crafting because steel and stainless steel are both metals. Furthermore the block and stairs are named respectively iron block and iron stair.

On the contrary, I propose all metal and metallic items all be called Metal Plate including blocks. (i.e. Steel, Gold, Iron, Silver, etc.)

The amount of times I have tried to explain things like spike traps to new players...
The conversation usually goes something like this:

Me: You need some thorns and metal plates
Them: Metal plates??????
Me: Iron plates, but named wrong

The full blocks are not called "metal blocks", they are called Iron Blocks. So why are the half blocks called something else?
