Something weird happened in pen’s

I did a small “giveaway” in pen’s with ressources in glass. I was still on the plot when someone else rented it. And when this person mined the glass block under me... we discovered I was still able to take the items I dropped and put in glass (I wasn’t able to take glass, only the items in it). I don’t know if it was a bug or if it was intentional (with the new update). Does it have a purpose or it was a bug? (Sorry if it wasn’t clear, English isn’t my first language.)
