About my Black Cat and the Topic of Fairness

Before I begin, I will make something clear: this is not (1) a "CC Is Dying" thread, (2) a drama thread, or (3) an accusation thread. I'm just bringing up this topic because of the mindset a lot of players seem to share and I need to clear it up.

It's about the Black Cat Kennel I won for the Halloween Short Stories and Poems contest. Several (unnamed) players now have come up to me in-game, through private messages here, or just on my wall telling me I don't deserve the black cat because "you're rich and other players might need it more." But this is so, so, so wrong and I am going to elaborate on why.

1st Point: I am not "rich". This is the first time I have ever had a Black Cat, and if I sell it, that will be the most cubits I have ever had at one time. Many people seem to think that when I found out I won, I just thought "Oh, another black cat. That's cool I guess, I'll just put it with my other 17 to collect dust in a room." No, I was incredibly excited when I found out I won. This is the first talent-based (aka non-raffle) event I have ever won, and it means a lot that my poem was in the top 5. I'm just as happy about winning this as most of you would be.

2nd Point: If Space had judged the contest not based on talent but based on "who is the poorest player and needs this cat most?", he would be an awful judge. This was not a pity contest, you didn't win by being broke, you won by writing a good story or poem. News flash for you: this world we live in looks for people with talent, not people who are at the bottom of the system. In any country that has a free economy, it's a ladder that anyone can climb. Now, the level of difficulty varies greatly from person to person, but anyone can climb said ladder.

However, all that aside, this is not real life. This is a video game. In real life, yes, I do believe in giving to the poor to help them get back onto their feet so they can start building their life up. But this is a game, and even if you have 0 cubits, you can still enjoy yourself. (I just made half of you angry by saying that.) You might not get to have all the shiny items, but you won't die of starvation or something like that.

3rd Point: Being rich is not a bad thing. If someone in Cubic Castles has a lot of cubits, it doesn't mean they just got all of them for free while you didn't and life is so unfair because that person is favored and you're not and so on, and on, and on. Geez. It means they worked for their cubits. They earned them. So many people also act like it's a sin to buy cubits or that it's cheating. Um, where do you think they got the money to buy them in the first place? Even if it's something like allowance money and they don't have to work a job, who cares? It's their money to spend, and if no one bought cubits, this game would cease to exist. I think in reality the people who complain about others buying cubits are the 13-year-olds whose parents don't allow them to buy cubits and therefore they are jealous.

The idea that money should be taken from the rich and given to the poor is wrong. That is where communism and other bad ideas come in. It's a utopia where life is fair for everyone, but utopia is really dystopia. If life were so fair for everyone that we were all the same, what would happen to the beauty in diversity? Talent would not be valued, and would therefore cease to exist.

So yeah, this is something that I feel more people need to hear. The contest was judged fairly and not incorrectly. If the "poor" people wanted that black cat so badly, they should have written better stories. And a talent for storywriting is not just something you "have", it's something you work to achieve. You research, you learn, you practice. You don't just complain when people who have obviously worked on theirs win when your "poem" didn't even rhyme once.
I'm not saying either that mine was the best story, far from it. That was the judge's opinion and I am in no way saying that I'm better than all of you. If you got that message from this entire thing I'm writing, go back and read it again.

Life is not fair. Nothing is fair. Fairness is a dream that will never become reality. Just work on improving yourself instead of looking at what other people get from life. You'll never be the same as them, you need to forge your own path and make your own mark.

I'm also really, really hoping this doesn't turn into a flame war and it gets closed. I just wanted to put this message out there. Keep your comments civil. Thanks.

    a) Sometimes I think you should just ignore all the haters, rather than shoot em down with facts, although not complaining, it's highly amusing. Also, the forums are pretty dead sometimes, so this spices em up.

    b) Personally, I think you shouldn't sell it, as a BLACK CAT was intended as the prize, not 200k-250k. But it's not up to me what you do with it, so yeah.

    c) The phrase is News Flash ;)

    d) Not all poems rhyme, it's called "free verse". Curse those poem units in English class!
    e) Congrats, and put dem cubits to good use.

In my opinion, you didn't have to do this (like, hey, it's a game bro..). However, I do totally agree with the points you developed. I still don't understand why people keep on saying "you won cuz u rich, u won cuz u popular argh only pros win..."

As you said world's made out of talented people so it's normal to reward them if they do something wonderful!

Also, everyone got that tiny touch. However, CC only offers restricted talent-based contests and that, might be triggering these guys.

Anyways, that's my thought about it :)

Well said Jack. Once you win something it is yours to do with as you choose. If I won an expensive car in real life I would sell it because it's mine to sell and there are things I'd rather have than an overpriced car. There is nothing wrong with selling something you won, it's a prize, not a gift (that would be a different story).

I am accused of being "rich" all the time because I had a friend in the past that loved opening packs and was very generous. I would never sell those things because they were gifts, they are priceless, they do not make me rich. My cubits, I have worked hard for with the many hours I spent mining, farming and selling the resources. I did buy a small number of cubits last Black Friday sale that I used to start my shop. I wanted to support the game that has given me so many hours of fun. I am not ashamed of that and proudly wear my patron swirls.

So congrats on your win and I hope you enjoy having a nice fat piggy for a while :)

To be honest I saw your poem since my entry was right next to yours and I think it was pretty good. You deserve your prize and with that I dont wanna sound rude but in my opinion the others may be a bit jealous. Since *coughs* I'm still a tiny bit jelly of those who were chosen by Space xD. Also there were so much more brilliant entries (yes, I read all of those annoying stories/poems) that I would've liked picked for the black cats so of course I understand where those people may be coming from.

    I agree with most points.
Kids these days want a participation trophy for everything they do.
The best should win in a competition. That's what competitions are for, to compete.

Yeah totally hate that people who help keep the game running are vilified for buying cubits.
News flash. There would be no game for you to play for free without us.

The thought that any kind of helping the poor or those less off than you is communism is madness. Socialism works. You even have it over there. Library, Fire Service Taxation for roads and infrastructure etc.
You are only as strong as the weakest person in your society.

But yeah we should leave politics out of this. Not sure why you brought it up tbh.
Lets go to dms if you wanna discuss it further.
Kids being jealous/entitled isn't really advocating communism lol.

I was only kidding about the news thing, but it never said anything against free verse poems. Sure, poems that rhyme SOUND better imo, but sometimes free verse can be fantastic. Also, sentimental items are neat, and are like a trophy to hold on to. Having a black cat by your side shows you how well you had done, and Grace would say the same thing. Just saying, a prize as big as that is cool to have, because you didn't have to buy it. A black cat is an awesome pet, and you're kinda just throwing it away :/. Yes, cubits are VERY helpful, but 200k wasn't the prize. As I said, it's your choice, but to say "keeping it for the sake of keeping it makes no sense" isn't exactly a great idea. Welp, have a good day.

There’s no rule saying “The black cat is the prize, you can’t sell it because cubits wasn’t the prize”. What if he won cubits instead of a black cat? Would he not be able to spend the cubits?

You're right, I guess this does count as politics. I really just meant it for in-game issues though, I only brought up real-life problems to compare them side-by-side. I just want more people to think about their arguments before bringing them up, I guess. I seem to have a passion for debate, facts, and educating people on any topic, whether it's a stupid one or an important and controversial one.

This wasn't meant to be a super-serious discussion, though, sorry if it seems that way guys ;)
I guess we can stop commenting on this. If you disagree with me on any of my points, feel free to PM me. G is right, the public discussions aren't a good place for debate since people are so easily offended and it ends up as a brawl that eventually gets closed.

Besides, I think the people who say I shouldn't have won are in reality just jealous that they themselves did not win. Which is poor sportsmanship, to say the least.

Good day to you all :D

  • Agree!
When i joined the competition with my poem, I was excited and I hopef to win because I was used to writing deep poems about relationships and faith in my blog- yet that does not determine my skill with Holloween themed poems xD

When I found that i didn’t win, I was disappointed; but I also felt happy for those who won especially for your poem Jack Fury, since it really was good and connected a lot to Cubic Castles :) There are more competitions and events to come, and I think people should just be sporty about it and not be bitter xD
  • I just wanna say congrats to Jakkie Fury Chenpai.
also dab on dem haters, if they want their own prize or think that they deserve it more, then work harder :>
  • Pft I would sell the black cat and buy a white cat as there is zero difference between the two besides coloring. Then I could have the white cat follow me around.

He can do whatever he wants with it.
He sold it to someone who actually wants it. At the same times Jack got cubits that he needed.
If Jack really wanted to keep the cat then he would.
He got the cubits he needed and now both the buyer and seller are happy.

Please stop telling him what he should have done or what he should do. If you say its his choice then don't tell him he should've kept it cause it's the prize.

It's basically the same thing when you win cubits. You use them not keep them. And that's what Jack did.

yeah i hate those kind of people... like sure some buy cubits and are richer, but why would someone that is poor win with a bad poem instead of maybe a bit rich person with an actual good poem that has a lot of work into it, i had even a person copying my work XD (although i sadly didnt win)

but yeah, they just need to work for their cubits, and not expect they can get anything by just participating like many games do nowadays
