How to encase?

I keep seeing items inside glass (not just in vends) and I've been trying to get things inside a glass block but they either bounce outside or on top, never inside T.T
What am I doing wrong? Does it take a different kind of block that isn't just glass?

I think you had a colored glass, not a regular glass.

You toss the items out of your inventory onto the floor or surface you want them displayed on, select clear glass in your inventory and then place a glass block right on the spot where the items are.
