Nope, you actually can comment anything on a post and it will bring it to the top. People just say bump to clarify the purpose of their comment.

U can use BUMP to bring up your old post, so players can see it on top of recent discussion. Remember, only 48hours for each bump

It doesn't (technically) have to be exactly "bump", because anytime you post on a thread it brings it up to recent discussions. But Bump is in the rules and doesn't look like spam.
