A lot of what focuses our development is how things are received. If we notice everyone is farming and more people are playing then of course we'll put more effort into expanding that side of the game. For what it's worth I actually think Stardew Valley was a very very well designed game, but for me it wasn't about theme. It was about a very strong meta-game. How much of that came from predecessors like Harvest Moon I'm not sure.
In a sandbox game like cubic castles though I think the theme is kind of what you want. Your realms are your worlds. For some people that may be a rustic farm, and for others the ideal theme may be a vampire tower. So perhaps what is needed are more options to set the feel of realms. More realm skins, some musical options, etc...
Hmm interesting thought. It's that pull between freedom of choice and creating an immersive theme. Hard to have both. I am so surprised when I see how many people are playing Stardew valley at the same time, it being so limited in comparison. When I messed with farming in beta is felt so much for free and I got it, I realized this is what I was hoping for in Stardew.
I really hope people will enjoy farming and that it will connect with new players deeply. My non-social friends always ask me "what do I do in this game" because of the freedom of choice. Now I can tell them "build your first farm :)".
It'd be great to be able to give 'em their first 50c for a farm pack too.
Thx Sir kewberth for that post. Helps a lot with the Betamax dilemma. And that gave me a lil jump when I saw when u said "it's not just farm items" (I'm paraphrasing but eh). So that helped a lot to realize that this is not just a bunch of items and things, but it will affect the game a lot...
