how the hell do you upload an image to activity

i have been trying for like 2 hours. i have read like 30 articles on how to post images to forums and absolutely none of them work. please help me.
btw i mean to the part that says Image url

    Okay what you want to do is start a new discussion. Add the photo via the insert file option and it will show up at the bottom. Click the x next to the photo and then click the photo again. Now in your text box you should have an image link.
    Simply copy this link and post it to the activity wall
