The idea is very simple, it's a sign with text on it (in-game of ofcourse), but when it is placed, there is a little line underneath with the username of the person who placed it there. For example:
"Hey, I'll be back on later"

Why is this useful? Well, for a number of reasons, it's very useful:
- No more need to sign your name on posts
- Can make approved messages (for example, from mods), which is good for
- Verifying things like payaways
- Placing an official stamp on the realm... for example, a parkour course could have an official difficulty set by a mod or admin. We know it's real because we see the name under the sign.
- Know that a message has not been tampered with
