They are not gone.
They are just extremely hard to find(a bit too hard in my opinion).

Yes they can be hard to find. Go for mountain mine and try looking for this mountain grass pattern to find it.






Dig around and find entrance.

I believe the reason why the are harder to find is because the beehive trick doesn't work anymore(kill yourself and u respawn in the entrance if there is one) and now people actually have to look for them
